Dorian Creech Is Dead – “Dear Lita Chantler, I’m Sorry.”

I keep saying this about Dorian Creech Is Dead, but this project really is underrated.

This is a solo punk project from Michigan, and unless I’ve missed one, “Dear Lita Chantler, I’m Sorry.” is the seventh single so far. I’ve enjoyed every one of them. That’s pretty rare, especially with a project that has been releasing songs one by one rather than hiding weaker tracks inside an album.

The new one keeps the same thing I’ve liked from the beginning. It’s melodic, a little rough around the edges, personal without feeling overdramatic, and catchy enough that it sticks after one listen.

There’s also a very specific personality to these songs. Even the titles have become part of the charm. They’re long, weird, funny, sometimes a bit sad, and somehow they fit the music perfectly.

What makes the project work for me is that it still feels genuinely DIY. Not in the sense of sounding unfinished, but in the sense that it feels like one person making music because he has something to get out of his system. That honesty comes through.

Seven singles in and I’m still waiting for the one that disappoints me… Hasn’t happened yet.
