French punk veterans Burning Heads are back with “SOS 2,” their first new single in roughly two years and the opening track from the upcoming album All Fired Up, due October 16 via Kicking Music.
The title connects directly to “SOS,” released 27 years ago, which gives the song an extra layer for anyone who has followed the band for a long time. It is a nice reference to their own history without making the track feel stuck in it.
Coming out of Orléans in the late 80s, Burning Heads have spent decades moving between melodic punk, hardcore, reggae, and dub. That mix has always been part of what made them stand out, and “SOS 2” still carries that familiar balance of speed, melody, and urgency.
After a couple of years without new material, this feels like a proper return rather than just another single. The song is sharp, direct, and immediately recognizable as Burning Heads, with no need to overcomplicate things or chase a newer sound.
That is probably the best thing about it. Nearly forty years into the band’s history, they still sound completely comfortable in their own lane.
If “SOS 2” is the tone-setter for All Fired Up, October is looking promising.
