Today in Punk History: June 8th

1999

June 8, 1999: Pennywise released Straight Ahead via Epitaph Records — a fast, furious, and politically charged album that kept their SoCal skate punk energy burning strong.

🎧 “Greed”

June 8, 1999: The Donnas released Get Skintight via Purple Feather Records — still one of my personal favorites. A perfect blend of punk attitude, glam hooks, and rock n’ roll swagger.

🎧 “Skintight”

2004

June 8, 2004: Ten Foot Pole released Subliminable Messages via Go Kart Records — their last album before the hiatus. Not as brilliant as their earlier work, but still packed with 3-4 solid bangers.

🎧“Kicked Out of Kindergarten”

June 8, 2004: Alexisonfire released Watch Out! — the album that helped define 2000s post-hardcore, blending raw aggression with melody and emotion. A game-changer for the genre and the band.

🎧 “Accidents”

June 8, 2004: My Chemical Romance released Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge — the breakthrough emo-punk album that took them global. Dark, dramatic, and packed with anthems that defined a generation.

🎧 “I’m Not Ok (I Promise)”

June 8, 2004: Bad Religion released The Empire Strikes First via Epitaph — a sharp, politically charged record that found the band in top lyrical form during turbulent times. Urgent, melodic, and still relevant.

🎧 “Los Angeles Is Burning”

2010

June 8, 2010: Off With Their Heads released In Desolation via Epitaph Records — gritty, heartfelt punk rock built on raw honesty and singalong anthems. One of their strongest records.
