Rest in Power: Colin Jerwood, Voice of Conflict, 1962–2025

Colin Jerwood, the uncompromising frontman of UK anarcho-punk legends Conflict, has passed away following a short illness, as announced by the band on June 2, 2025. He was 63 years old.

Born on May 6, 1962, in Eltham, South London, Jerwood co-founded Conflict in 1981. The band quickly became a cornerstone of the anarcho-punk movement, known for their fierce political stance, advocacy for animal rights, and anti-establishment messages. Under Jerwood’s leadership, Conflict released influential albums such as It’s Time to See Who’s Who and The Ungovernable Force, and established their own label, Mortarhate Records, to support like-minded artists.

Conflict’s live performances were notorious for their intensity and often led to clashes with authorities, reflecting the band’s commitment to challenging societal norms. Jerwood’s powerful vocals and unyielding lyrics inspired generations of punk fans and activists worldwide.

In May 2025, Conflict released This Much Remains, their first studio album in over two decades, featuring contributions from notable artists and reaffirming their relevance in the punk scene.
