PHS do not overthink things, and that is exactly why “AA Is For Pussies” works. Straight out of Detroit and released via Proud House Records, this single is fast, ugly, sarcastic, and completely uninterested in being polite. No metaphors, no filters, no attempts to soften the blow. Just punk doing what punk has always done.
The track comes in hot. Guitars scrape and churn, the drums stay tight and impatient, and the vocals sound like they were recorded five minutes after the idea was born. There is a live-wire energy to it, the kind that feels more like a reaction than a composition. It moves quickly, hits its point, and gets out.
The attitude is the whole thing here. “AA Is For Pussies” is not trying to be deep or poetic. It is blunt, sarcastic, and deliberately obnoxious. That is part of its charm. It lands somewhere between dark humor and frustration, delivered with a shrug rather than a sermon. If you grew up on hardcore, street punk, or anything remotely confrontational, this feels familiar, not shocking.
What PHS do well is keep it real. The production is rough, the edges are visible, and nothing feels cleaned up for comfort. It sounds like a Detroit band playing Detroit punk, stubborn, gritty, and a little unhinged in the right way. There is no attempt to be clever. Just noise, attitude, and momentum.
“AA Is For Pussies” is not here to be your favorite song. It is here to exist, to poke, to annoy, and to move on. And honestly, that is sometimes exactly what punk is supposed to do.
