LARD, the fierce and genre-smashing collaboration between punk icon Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) and industrial metal mastermind Al Jourgensen (Ministry), are reissuing their second and final full-length album Pure Chewing Satisfaction, remastered and repressed for a new generation. Set for release on August 22 via Alternative Tentacles, the reissue comes in multiple limited vinyl variants, marking the first proper pressing of the album in years.
Originally released in 1997, Pure Chewing Satisfaction followed their 1990 debut The Last Temptation of Reid and saw the band refining their fusion of hardcore punk, industrial, and metal with even more bite. The album pulls no punches, delivering politically charged, satirical lyrics atop thunderous guitars, grinding samples, and pummeling drum machines. From government surveillance and media corruption to the hypocrisy of organized religion, Biafra’s trademark spoken-word venom meets Jourgensen’s wall-of-sound production in a way that still feels urgent nearly three decades later.
Despite LARD’s relatively sparse discography, the project has long been considered a cult favorite among fans of both artists. Pure Chewing Satisfaction stands out for its tightly produced aggression and its ability to blur the line between punk and industrial without compromising either. Tracks like “War Pimp Renaissance” and “Peeling Back the Foreskin of Liberty” are perfect examples of the duo’s ability to tackle serious subject matter with dark wit and sonic intensity.
The new remaster, overseen by Alternative Tentacles, enhances the original’s brutal clarity, while the vinyl variants—available in splatter, opaque, and traditional black—make this a must-have for collectors. The packaging features refreshed artwork that honors the original’s twisted visual style, matching the unrelenting tone of the music inside.
With Pure Chewing Satisfaction back in circulation, LARD’s radical spirit and sonic fury are more relevant than ever. In an era of rising political tension, digital overload, and corporate cynicism, LARD’s raw energy and anti-authoritarian fire serve as a reminder that resistance never goes out of style. This reissue isn’t just a trip down memory lane—it’s a wake-up call.
