There’s something genuinely refreshing about “Insecure (Demo)” by Kung Fu Juice Box. It’s raw, rough around the edges, and completely honest, exactly what punk should sound like when it’s coming from the right place.
This is only the band’s second single ever, created by two young teens, and honestly, that’s one of the best parts. I love the fact that two kids decided to pick up instruments and play this kind of music. In a time when everything feels polished and algorithm-friendly, choosing loud, messy punk rock feels almost rebellious again.
The recording is intentionally loose. The guitars scrape, the rhythm surges forward without restraint, and the vocals feel immediate and unfiltered. Nothing is cleaned up, nothing is hidden. It sounds like a band pressing record and trusting the moment.
What makes “Insecure” work isn’t technical perfection or studio gloss. It’s sincerity. The song captures that familiar mix of doubt and frustration that sits at the core of punk, especially when you’re young and still figuring out where you fit.
There’s no posing here. No attempt to sound older or tougher than they are. Just two kids making noise, expressing themselves, and discovering what punk can be for them.
For a second release, this is exactly where it should be: loud, imperfect, honest, and full of possibility.
Wishing Kung Fu Juice Box all the best as they keep moving forward.
