JER – Death of the Heart

Gainesville’s JER—the solo project of Skatune Network’s Jeremy Hunter—returns with Death of the Heart, a bold and eclectic second album out August 15 via Bad Time Records. Building on the success of their debut, JER pushes beyond ska-punk’s boundaries, weaving in bursts of hardcore, moments of reggae and ska tradition, indie and emo textures, and layers of brass and multi-instrumental arrangements.

Across its 15 tracks, Death of the Heart balances sharp political commentary with deeply personal reflection. Songs like Capitalism Breeds Devastation hit with fury, while tracks such as the title cut and Claim Yr True Feelings, Wounded Child lean into vulnerability and introspection. This contrast gives the record a dynamic flow, keeping listeners hooked from the first horn blast to the final chord.

Every element feels intentional—tight arrangements, genre-shifting transitions, and a clear vision for what ska-punk can be in 2025. Whether you’re here for the pit-ready anthems, the thoughtful lyrics, or the rich, layered instrumentation, Death of the Heart offers all of it without compromise.
