HYPERDOG – “Smartphone”

From the underground of Linz, Austria, comes a burst of raw frustration wrapped in distortion and urgency. HYPERDOG just dropped their new single “Smartphone”, and it clocks in at under two minutes—but somehow manages to say more than most albums do in 40.

It’s a fast, snarling, and sarcastic take on our love-hate relationship with the little glowing rectangles in our pockets. There’s nothing too polished here—just jagged guitars, shouted truths, and a beat that’s impossible to sit still to. The whole thing feels like a panic attack in a punk vest, and that’s exactly the point.

The accompanying music video is as grimy and honest as the track itself, shot with the same urgency the band brings to every riff. You won’t find staged choreography or digital gloss, just a visual companion to the chaos we live in: a world where attention spans are fried and we scroll through life like it’s all background noise.

“Smartphone” follows their 2024 record Frog Mountain, but this feels leaner, meaner, and more to the point. Where Frog Mountain played with textures and moods, “Smartphone” just comes out swinging.

With a fall tour on the way, HYPERDOG aren’t just dropping songs, they’re ready to make stages sweat. If you’ve been craving punk that doesn’t pander, doesn’t pose, and doesn’t care if your Wi-Fi’s working, this one’s for you.
