Munich band Four Black Lungs drop “To My Friends,” and it’s one of those songs that doesn’t try to impress you. It just sits there and hits slowly.
The sound is what you’d expect if you’re into that Hot Water Music / Menzingers lane. Gritty guitars, steady pace, nothing flashy. But what makes it work is how natural it feels. It doesn’t rush, it doesn’t try to be louder than it needs to be. It just builds and lets the melody do its thing.
The vocals are where it really lands. There’s something honest in the delivery, like it’s coming from a real place rather than trying to sound “emotional.” It feels more like someone talking than performing, which fits the whole tone of the track.
It also feels like a continuation of what they’ve been doing, just a bit more locked in. Same identity, but more comfortable in it. Nothing forced, nothing extra.
Production keeps it clean enough to hear everything, but still rough where it matters. You can feel the band playing, not just a polished recording.
“To My Friends” isn’t trying to be a big statement. It’s just a solid, honest song, and sometimes that lands harder than anything else.
