El Hefe Steps Out with Solo Track “White Label”

Aaron “El Hefe” Abeyta, longtime guitarist and backing vocalist for NOFX, has just dropped his debut solo track, “White Label,” via his own label, Cyber Tracks. The song is currently only available as a $1.29 digital download directly from the label’s website—no streaming, no teaser, just a straight-up paywall.

Musically, “White Label” delivers what fans have come to expect from Hefe: tight guitar work, sharp production, and that clean, melodic sensibility that’s defined his role in NOFX for decades. Early reactions to the song itself have been overwhelmingly positive—listeners are into the tone, the playing, the overall vibe. It’s a polished, well-executed solo debut that puts Hefe’s signature sound front and center.

The only thing sparking mixed reactions is the way it’s being shared. Dropping a digital-only single behind a paywall, without so much as a preview, feels off for some fans—especially in 2025, where streaming is the default and direct downloads have all but faded. The $1.29 price tag isn’t steep, but for those used to instant access, it’s a barrier.

That said, this might not be the final form of the release. It’s likely “White Label” is just a soft rollout or pre-release—something aimed at the diehards willing to support Hefe directly before a wider launch hits platforms like Spotify or Apple Music. If that’s the case, it makes more sense, and might even give fans early bragging rights.

Releasing through Cyber Tracks, the label Hefe co-founded with his wife Jen Abeyta, lines up with his DIY ethos and gives him total creative control. But it also limits reach—at least for now.

Still, this first solo step feels authentic. “White Label” shows that El Hefe has more to say musically, and he’s choosing to say it on his own terms—even if that means doing things a little differently.
