Sadlands – Twin Flame

Sadlands are the kind of band that doesn’t just write songs—they craft emotional detonations wrapped in melody. Their new single “Twin Flame,” out now via Wiretap Records, is a fierce and fragile anthem that marks the next chapter for the Brooklyn/Boston-based outfit. It’s the first glimpse into their upcoming debut full-length Try To Have A Little Fun, and it hits like a revelation.

Fronted by the dual vocals of Sam Campanile and Jess Lane, Sadlands thrive in the tension between softness and bite. “Twin Flame” opens with fuzzy guitars and a slow-burning sense of vulnerability before building into a cathartic release that feels both raw and radiant. Jess’s voice in particular shines—it’s piercing, emotional, and completely magnetic, floating above gritty instrumentals that feel tailor-made for every heart-punched road trip playlist.

Lyrically, the song dives into heavy waters. Inspired by a documentary about spiritual cults manipulating the idea of a “twin flame” to trap people in toxic relationships, the track unfolds like a warning wrapped in heartbreak. There’s longing in the verses, defiance in the chorus, and by the end, you get the sense that this flame has burned everything to the ground—and something stronger is rising from the ashes.

Produced by Matt Schimelfenig (Gladie) and mastered by Ian Farmer (Modern Baseball), “Twin Flame” is polished in all the right ways without ever sanding down its emotional edge. You can feel the DIY punk roots in every bar, but there’s also a clarity and confidence that signals this band is ready for something bigger.

Sadlands aren’t chasing trends. They’re writing the kind of honest, gut-punched punk songs that feel personal and universal at once. If “Twin Flame” is any indication, their upcoming album won’t just be one to watch—it’ll be one to hold onto.
