St. Petersburg, Florida’s Lot Lizards make a bold entrance with their debut album The Horrors of Adulting, out July 25 on Punkerton Records. With sharp hooks, urgent melodies, and a heavy dose of real-life struggle, the band delivers a tightly packed record that hits with both speed and substance.
From the emotionally raw opener Broken Parts—written in memory of frontman Jon Barnes’ father—to the defiant burn-it-all-down energy of Cash on Fire, the album digs into the stress, loss, and exhaustion that come with growing older and trying to stay afloat. But it’s not all bleak: these tracks come alive with punchy riffs, gang vocals, and a melodic sensibility that recalls ‘90s skate punk at its finest.
The Horrors of Adulting clocks in at just over 26 minutes, but it covers a lot of ground: broken relationships, disappointment, anxiety, and the fleeting desire to run away from it all. Tracks like Surprise Party and Great Escapes bring those themes into sharp focus, while the band’s energy keeps things moving fast.
With a strong lead-up of singles and limited edition vinyl available via Punkerton Records, The Horrors of Adulting feels like a confident, cathartic debut from a band ready to make noise beyond their Florida base.
