Belfast indie-punk crew Strange New Places just dropped their debut album, Second Puberty, and it’s one of the most refreshingly honest records of the year. Rooted in queerpunk and power-pop with big AJJ vibes, it’s full of heart, hooks, and joy.
The album captures everything from late-night friendship and awkward growth to loud declarations of self. Tracks like Coraline and YATPYFL hit hard emotionally but stay warm and inviting. It’s personal without being self-serious, political without losing its playfulness.
Released on June 19, Second Puberty follows two earlier singles and builds on that sound beautifully. They’re celebrating with a launch show at the Oh Yeah Centre in Belfast and bringing it to life through Pride season.
If you’re into DIY punk that’s vulnerable, catchy, and actually says something, give this one your time. It’s queer punk done right, fun, fearless, and full of feeling.
