Modern Life Is War – Johnny Gone

Iowa-based punk band Modern Life Is War have released a new single titled “Johnny Gone,” their first new material since 2013. The track serves as the lead single from their forthcoming full-length album, Life on the Moon, due out September 5, 2025, via Deathwish Inc. in partnership with Iodine Recordings.

“Johnny Gone” showcases the band’s hallmark blend of emotionally charged lyricism and melodic hardcore intensity. Driven by dense guitars and a sense of urgency, the song explores themes of alienation, resistance, and psychological strain. According to vocalist Jeffrey Eaton, the track is “a subvertisement… a neurotic flash of lightning” centered on the fictional Johnny—a character unraveling under the weight of political disillusionment and personal breakdown.

Life on the Moon will feature twelve new tracks and represents a major return for the band, whose last full-length, Fever Hunting, was released in 2013. Known for their foundational influence in melodic hardcore, Modern Life Is War continue to write with a raw, poetic clarity that has defined their work since forming in Marshalltown, Iowa in 2002.
